I'm one of those people without that strong tooth gene, and being a self employed artist with out health insurance, I’ve put off the inevitable totally because of a resistance to paying so much to the american dental system. Rust never sleeps , my teeth were oxidizing.
So the first time I was in Thailand [2002] I noticed some really nice modern dental offices with amazingly low rate want to try it out . I walked into Smile Dental Clinic in Bangkok's trendy Siam Square and made an appointment for the next day and had a nice dentist check my mouth and do some fillings cost ; around $60. The equipment was good this work survived well and I went back the next trip got some dental work done.
I ended up in Chiangmai after a few other clinics, all doing fine work, but the Fortune Dental Clinic was all around the best in I had found in my modest hunt.
The name I think pertains to good fortune or making a fortune, I don't know, their fees are as low as the rest..
Just the work ,the staff ,the facility and the services are exceptional, with the typical Thai graciousness of the senior , Dr.Sawaeng Bhosai ,University of Chiang Mai Dental emeritus, He sets the high standard, taking personal concern for his patients, even having a driver to shuttle patients and nice guest cottages available behind the clinic. Though the clinic is located in a kind of highly urban out skirts of the ancient city.
Where I like to stay is the Pagoda Inn, very close to an amazing little golden temple, in a quiet neighborhood with in walking distance of a few days worth of interesting places and things to do. A great little food market place, thai cooking schools that cater to english speaking foodies, plenty of cafes and restaurants ,a burger joint, a vegetarian breakfast cafe, great coffee places, pubs, and one of the best italian places I've ever eaten. Of course all of these at gloriously affordable prices, even though the US dollar has fallen recently. The hotel is $12. w/ a fan room or $15. with ac., and we're talking a nice small sytlish place. The italian dinner might be $10 for 2 people. A bunch of ripe bananas 25 cents .A latte is for some reason still $2. So it is possible to spend 2 weeks, get the teeth worked on and get back , and have a nice holiday for the price of sitting in your local dentists chair.
Really this sort of thing can be had in Mexico, Costa Rica , India and Argentina,,,, but Thailand is a great change and a really pleasant culture, a smiling and safe intro to Asia if you've never been before, even if you don't need your teeth worked on. So please come with me to try this out, right now i'm leaving Jan19th hopefully with a group , other wise I'll have another great trip to a warm place for 2 weeks. I will do this again, knowing that it is short notice, Lets stay in touch.
Deep thanks,Kevin
